FAQ · Dr Maja Simić

What does rhinoplasty surgery involve, and how long does it take?

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes between 1.5 and 3 hours. The approach can be open or closed, depending on the anatomy of the nose and the corrections needed.

During surgery, the cartilage and bones of the nose are reshaped. The structure of the nose is preserved to maintain a natural appearance and proper breathing. The procedure can be aesthetic, functional (to improve breathing) or a combination of both.

At the end of surgery, light packing and an external protective mask are placed; the mask is removed after five to seven days. Returning to work is often possible after one to two weeks, depending on individual recovery.

Realistic expectations matter before surgery - the goal is a nose that is in harmony with the rest of the face, not a uniform shape.
