Biopolymer Removal — Restoring Naturalness and Healthy Tissue

Biopolymers are substances that were once used for permanent volume enhancement in areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin or buttocks.
Unfortunately, over time it has been shown that these materials can cause chronic inflammation, deformations and tissue migration, making their removal an important part of modern reconstructive aesthetic surgery.

At Dr Maja Simić's practice, biopolymer removal is performed precisely and safely, with maximum preservation of healthy tissue and gradual restoration of natural appearance.

When is biopolymer removal recommended?

The procedure is indicated for patients who have:

  • chronic inflammation or pain in the area where biopolymer was injected
  • irregularities, hardening or migration of the material
  • facial or body asymmetry
  • a desire to remove an unknown or unwanted substance for aesthetic reasons

Biopolymers are often of unknown composition and unpredictable behaviour, so their timely removal prevents more serious complications.

The procedure

  • Depending on the location and amount of material, the procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia
  • Surgical access to the affected tissue is obtained, the biopolymer is carefully removed and, if needed, the surrounding tissue is reshaped
  • In some cases, after a recovery period, reconstructive treatment can be planned (e.g. lipofilling or hyaluronic fillers) to restore natural contour

Recovery and results

  • Recovery depends on the extent of the procedure, but most patients return to daily activities after 7–10 days
  • Mild swelling and a feeling of tightness are present in the first few days
  • Final result is visible over several weeks

The most important effect is restoration of healthy, stable and natural tissue structure.

💬 Philosophy of treatment

"Biopolymer removal is not just a medical procedure — it's returning to naturalness and trust in your body.
True beauty doesn't come from permanent materials,
but from the balance between health, proportion and authenticity."
