FAQ · Dr Maja Simić

Can hyaluronic acid fillers be dissolved?

Yes. A hyaluronic acid filler can be broken down with the enzyme hyaluronidase, which is applied via microinjections to the area where the filler is located.

This is considered, for example, for excess filler, asymmetry or material migration, as well as for lumps and irregularities. The most common treatment areas are the lips, under-eye area, nasolabial folds, cheeks and cheekbones, and jawline.

The procedure takes about 15–30 minutes. The breakdown effect becomes visible within 24–72 hours, depending on the amount and type of filler. In some cases, an additional application is needed. Mild redness, swelling or tenderness may follow and resolves within a short period.

Once the tissue has fully stabilised, a new, precisely dosed filler application can be planned.

Read more about the procedure on the hyaluronidase page. During a consultation with Dr Maja Simić in Belgrade, you can find out whether dissolving the filler is needed and how best to plan the correction.
